I’ve been active in the environmental movement for close to three years now. Like many things in life, when I first became involved and wanted to help turn the world “green”, my energy level was high. I quickly joined a number of local and national environmental organizations. I paid my annual memberships to be part of these groups and quickly became educated on a number of issues that I knew little about. Soon however, I became disillusioned with the recurring calls for.
- Additional donations above and beyond my annual dues.
- Continual requests to send an letter of protest to one or more elected representatives
Why this approach seems admirable, have these efforts made any great inroads in swaying public opinion for the last 40 years? Are the few extra dollars I donate or the letter that I send to my Congressman have any degree of influence to match that of the big energy lobbyists?
I’m 100% confident that one man can truly make a difference in helping transform the world but I choose to be a change agent that leads by example.
