Off to the place this where this whole environmental odyssey began for me, the majestic Adirondack mountains of New York state. I don’t believe anyone can’t truly embrace a “green” lifestyle until that connection with the natural world clicks. For some that may happen at a very young age, for others like myself, a mid-life epiphany strikes.
In my case, it didn’t involve a Jesus moment (nothing against the dude) but a snow covered, tree lined mountain in the middle of January. My senses became filled with a sense of awe soaking in the sights, sounds and smells of my surroundings like never before. Whatever leaped into my consciousness that day, took hold and has only grown stronger over time.
I can’t extoll my environmental beliefs with the same steadfast certainty of a born again Christian but I believe in the preservation of the natural world as strongly as any individual spewing their new found religious credo.
Some of us opt for Sunday service and a few of us prefer a mountaintop setting on a frigid winter day.
